St. Patrick's Day!

I am planning to celebrate my heritage by skipping the green beer and going for a non-alcoholic Green Lemonade this St. Patrick's Day http://hubpages.com/hub/Non-Alcoholic-Drinks-for-St-Patricks-Day

This drink won't help me lose many of my inhibitions, but you can bet I'll still be singing some Irish Tunes. And since lemon and ginger are great for the pipes, I'll be singing like a bird!

Hot Ticket!

I was so excited to see the Lifeguard Nights play at the Mercury Lounge this weekend - I even invited my friend from Albany to see the show with me. Little did I know the show was already sold out!

Not a ticket to be had. I should have known - there was a huge crowd for their Christmas show last year too. So I told my friend Sara that she would have to settle for dinner at my house instead, and maybe we could make some crafts.

That was not her idea of a fun night in NYC.

Then - the ever benevolent band leader bestowed "Special Guest" status upon me - which means - I get to Rock out with the band! And Sara gets a coveted spot on the guest list.

I can't wait to rock again with this 10 piece band - it'll be like the good old days! Thank you, Lifeguards! My Christmas dreams have come true!

Baby Eileen!

What Exciting News! Our great friends just brought home a sweet baby girl they named Eileen! Since "Come On Eileen" is one of my most favorite songs to dance to, we'll let Dexy's Midnight Runners rock her on the dance floor.

We Song Shop New Yorkers can't wait to help rock her to sleep with her own Eileen Lullaby! What a ring - It practically writes itself!

We hope it will help the new mom and dad get a little shut-eye too! Sweet dreams!

Nothing Rhymes With Orange

I couldn't resist listening to a conversation between two 14 year old girls on the downtown N train on my way home today. The shorter girl with great big hair wrote in a spiral notebook on her lap. I tuned in when the taller girl said, "Nothing rhymes with orange." She rolled her eyes and looked out the window as we crossed the Manhattan Bridge.

The short girl looked at her friend annoyed - "I know that. Nothing rhymes with purple either."

I couldn't help but interject one of my very favorite facts: "Nothing rhymes with wasp either!"

The girls looked at me for a second before getting back to work. The short girl scribbled something quick, and the tall one laughed.

All right for you, you cheerleaders - have a fun time at the pep rally - I hope your purple and orange team wins! I'll keep my lyrical gangstering to myself next time.

The exchange threw me back to my middle school days when my inner and outer dork were one. But if I inspired them to make up a word to rhyme with Wasp - it was worth it.

Oh - The Possibilities!

Today on the D train, I heard a great line for a new song. A huge tough guy across from me was discussing pets with a kind of tough lady sitting next to him. He said, "every time I get a new cat, I name it Rico."

There is so much going on in that line! A little bit Country - a little bit Gloom Pop - all Hit! What are we waiting for?
